Shhh...

...is what I said and then it took me just over 2 seconds to realise that it made absolutely no sense at all. For the first time in 3 years it didn't. For the first time in 3 years it made no sense to be quiet when going to bed. For the first time in 3 years it made no sense to peek into the second bedroom to see if our little girl was sound asleep. For the first time in 3 years the house seemed emptier than ever before.

For the first time in 3 years, my little girl was staying with my in-laws. Last Saturday Ms Fudge Factor and I went out with some friends and it was the perfect moment to have our daughter staying over with my in-laws. If all goes according to plan, she will have a little sister at the end of November and it seemed like a good idea to see if she liked sleeping at their house just in case it might be necessary at the time. The good news is she did! Of course when bedtime arrived, she was somewhat reluctant but all in all she liked it. And so did we. We had a terrific night out and we kept on telling eachother how we really should do this more often. It wasn't until we sat in the restaurant - our friends hadn't arrived yet - that we realised that normally 90% of our conversations at the dining table are centered around the little one and kids in general or that we are constantly interupted by the sweet lady and that this was the first time in ages that it wasn't like that. Apart from this little conversation of course.

Funny how the little lady (and her future little sis) make up such an enormous part of your life. Of course this is just great, but it took the two of us some time together to realise how much we missed it! Knowing that the little lady was in capable hands we hardly thought about her for the rest of the night.

Until we got home and stepped into the livingroom which seemed emptier. Until we moved upstairs and I noticed the closed door of her bedroom - when she sleeps the door is never fully closed. Until Diana called my name from our bedroom and I said "shhh...." And this kept going on until we had breakfast together next morning.

A very late breakfast, because for the first time in 3 years we had a long lie in!
